Don't tell me truth hurts, little girl
Jareth is the Goblin King of the Underground, and ruler of the Labyrinth. That’s who he is, but what he is presents a more difficult question. He is a very powerful and very old goblin, if he is a goblin at all. You certainly couldn’t mistake him for one of his subjects. Whether the Labyrinth is an extension of him or whether he is an extension of the Labyrinth (if it even matters) is also a mystery. But what is certain is that he is more in-tune with the Labyrinth’s twists and turns than anyone else, and has been reigning as long as any creature in it can remember. Longer, perhaps. He is as fickle and selfish and cruel as any fae, but he’s also as likely to be severe and stoic. In the chaos of the goblin court, someone has to maintain a measure of sanity. He is a thing out of fairy stories, but the old stories – the ones about child-stealers and changelings that always seem to end in blood.
